3 Welcome to the 2019 issue of Cruise & Ferry Interiors, which boasts a fresh new look as it steps out from the shadow of the mighty International Cruise & Ferry Review! It’s almost 45 years since Joe Farcus, our Design Legend (see page 138), broke the mould with his Carnival Cruise Line ship design in the 1970s. We’re much closer now to fairly valuing the designers’ role – their work inspires passengers to lose themselves in their vacation, transported from everyday toil to fantastical immersive experiences. But how often do we consider how interiors make us feel? Design psychology is not a new concept and the architects of our vacation experiences are masters of this science. In the most successful passenger ship interiors, the seven pillars (unity, balance, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, scale and detail) of exceptional design collaborate to deliver the precisely prescribed vacation mood to captivate passengers. There are countless examples throughout this issue. Holland America Group’s My Nguyen is one of many to give a perspective on the emotional connection that guests make through good design in our Personally Invested feature on page 42. Studio DADO focuses on how to provoke sensory responses in our cover story on page 38, while Christian Schönrock explores how Costa Group creates onboard magic in our keynote on page 10. Ferry operators are also setting themes for their own emotional stories – Andrew Sheen says Irish Ferries draws on its national heritage in our Interior View on W.B. Yeats on page 69, while Per-Ola Jonnerheim says Stena Line prioritises sustainability in his Design Perspective on page 82. We hope that this issue contributes to your greater appreciation of passenger ship interiors when you’re on your next adventure at sea! KEYNOTE The quest to deliver ideal interiors Rebecca Gibson asks Christian Schönrock to share the secrets behind Costa Group’s interior design strategy Nothing provides a holiday experience like a cruise on a ship, says Christian Schönrock, vice president of Newbuilding at Costa Group. “What other holiday gives you the chance to immerse yourself in nature, breathe in the sea air and watch the sun set over one picturesque city and wake up as it’s rising over another?” he asks. “Being on a ship is magical and we want to bring this experience to everyone with our ships.” Indeed, Schönrock’s mission is to offer a personalised cruise experience to each and every guest. “By creating multiple venues, we are able to satisfy the needs of different passenger demographics and target groups. We want our ships to be a platform that offers guests everything they need to have the best possible time – whether they want a quiet relaxing cruise, or one filled with non-stop entertainment and adventure,” he says. “Thanks to the large size of our ships, we have the space to incorporate play areas for young families, indoor and outdoor sports facilities for those who like to stay active, spas and wellness facilities for guests who want to relax, bars and theatres for those who want to party, multiple dining venues to suit everyone’s gastronomic preferences and so much more.” However, regardless of the number of elements onboard its ships, Schönrock says that it’s crucial that Costa Group’s guests do not feel overwhelmed. “Although our 1 0 “Being on a ship is magical and we want to bring this experience to everyone with our ships”

1 3 ships seem huge from the outside, and accommodate many people, we want our guests to feel as though they are at home while they are onboard – both in their private cabins and in the public spaces,” he explains. “Our atriums, for example, are designed to feel like cosy living rooms, while our many restaurants are configured in such a way that they recreate that intimate feeling of dining with friends and family at home. It’s this feeling of ships being designed just for our guests that keeps them coming back to us time and time again.” To achieve these goals, guest input is absolutely fundamental to the design process. “When building a new ship we analyse all the feedback from passengers and crew to identify what aspects of our current ships and onboard offerings are working well – and which elements could be improved – and we also explore what design, entertainment, dining and other trends are popular in the market,” Schönrock says. “This gives us a great foundation for designing the platform for our upcoming ships because it means we can include the old favourites that will keep our loyal guests happy, but also unleash our creativity to bring some exciting new innovations that will surprise and delight them.” Top management, the architect and the wider team then come together to build on this feedback and to develop the entirety of the ship, taking into account the overall flow of passengers and materials, the location of staircases, different entertainment spaces, the restaurant areas and cabins. “We make it a priority to optimise space for passengers,” Schönrock says. “If we know how many passengers we will have then we can accurately predict how many restaurants we’ll need and the space required for communal areas. We like to get the most out of our space, so we’ll often turn a daytime restaurant into a nightclub in the evening. The beach club is a perfect example – during the day you can relax there – you can have breakfast, lunch KEYNOTE Left: Relax in style on a deck cabana on AIDAnova. 1 5 or snacks. In the evening, however, it is livelier, and takes on a new atmosphere.” Just as much thought is paid to the outfitting process. “Safety is always the key priority when we’re designing and outfitting our ships, so we only use high-quality, marine-grade materials that have been certified by the International Maritime Organization and comply with all other industry requirements,” Schönrock says. “Lightweight, compact materials are particularly important on a cruise ship and we have established relationships with a number of preferred suppliers.” Schönrock believes that these relationships are just as crucial as those he has with the architects. “You do not start to design a ship and come to a point when you need a nice foyer; everything needs to be established in parallel. Our tight schedules mean that, once we sign the contract with the shipyard, there is no room for change. We need to have established designs in place as early on in the process as possible.” Sustainability is another key consideration for Schönrock. “We have to think about not only the impact of the ship, but the whole industry. From a starting point, the steel we use is quite sustainable and can also be reused when the ship is scrapped. But we’re also very aware of how much energy is being used to produce and transport the materials we use. We have to be careful that everything we use is sourced as locally as possible. It doesn’t make sense to buy an environmentally-friendly carpet from Australia, for example, and ship it to Europe for a ship’s dry dock.” When all of these considerations come together, Schönrock says the feeling is like no other. “I am especially proud of AIDAnova, the last ship we delivered,” he explains. “All of the different elements worked in harmony with one another. Customers really liked the ship too – they really struggled to pick a highlight! We had lots of feedback to say guests instantly felt at home on the ship, so it delivered everything we set out to achieve and more.” CFI KEYNOTE “We need to have established designs in place as early on in the process as possible” One of AIDAnova’s popular venues is the Time Machine restaurant, which takes guests on a journey through time with a three-course meal and entertainment Photo: AIDA Cruises

1 6 CFI CURATED Created as an ambassador for Italy, Costa Cruises’ new Costa Smeralda will combine everything that makes the country beloved worldwide, such as art, cinema, fashion, furniture, gastronomy, music, transportation and more. It’s a vision crafted by master storyteller Adam D. Tihany, who served as creative director for the project. “Briefed to create ‘Italy’s Finest’, I presented Costa’s four Italian and four German executives with a ‘love story’ to Italy. When I finished, all the Italians were in tears because they’d forgotten how beautiful their country and culture is,” said Tihany. “At that moment, I understood that Italians see their country very differently to foreigners and, because Costa’s passenger source market is 50% of each, Costa Smeralda had to depict both Italy and Italia.” To bring the Italy/Italia dichotomy to life, Tihany hired a mix of Italian, American and German designers, outfitters and fabric, furniture, lighting and other manufacturers. “The teams’ differing interpretations of ‘Italy’s Finest’ will give guests a psychologically and physically compelling story that feels real,” said Tihany. “I’ve paid my own tribute by creating CoDe, the first design museum at sea.” Tihany is creating similarly compelling stories in his role as creative director for Cunard’s new ship, which will celebrate the brand’s British heritage with “a whisper, not a shout” and debut in 2022. As lead designer for Seabourn, Breakfast at Tihany’s Keynote Jon Ingleton caught up with iconic hospitality designer Adam D. 1 7 he is directly designing the brand’s new ultra-luxury expedition ships, the first of which will launch in June 2021. “When the explorers of yesteryear went to Antarctica, they had clothing and equipment custom-made by the best manufacturers,” said Tihany. “I’m taking this approach with Seabourn Venture – guests should be able to tell that everything has been purposely designed for a luxury expedition.” Taking the role of creative director for two very different brands, while designing his first expedition cruise ship is exciting for a man who relishes a challenge. “My design motto is: you tell me the problem and I’ll find the best solution,” said Tihany. “I love that every project my studio does is dramatically different to the next, especially when I can collaborate with people who can teach me something new. For me, design is not just work, it’s my life, so the project that gives me the greatest pleasure is the one that I haven’t done yet!” CFI THE ‘WOW’ MOMENT “Every shipowner wants its ships to have an innovation that becomes a photo opportunity for passengers – it’s a very conscious part of the design process. However, you can’t always predict what it’s going to be. When I designed Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam, I expected it to be the grand atrium, but it’s actually a sculpture of Michelangelo’s David holding an iPhone outside the spa! That’s the magic of cruise ships with multi-layered design stories – everyone finds their own little piece of heaven they want to capture and remember.” Design note: Photo: YSA Design Photo: Costa Cruises Photo: Tihany Design Top: The Expedition Lounge onboard Seabourn Venture. 1 8 Project focus CFI CURATED Marine glass bonding technology specialist Brombach + Gess created two extendable glass-floor balconies for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ new Hanseatic nature, which starts service this summer. Located on the ship’s port and starboard sides, the 10-metre-long balconies are two metres wide and accommodate 50 people. A hydraulic system enables crew to extend the balconies for guest use during the cruise, but retract them if waves become too dangerous. Genting Cruise Lines chose Almaco to transform Star Cruises’ SuperStar Virgo into Dream Cruises’ Explorer Dream ahead of her July 2019 debut in China. Almaco had just two months to procure and transport 160 tons of materials via cargo plane from Europe to the dry dock in Singapore. These materials were used to refurbish 543 cabins, construct two Palace suites, convert 44 staterooms into 22 Bay Suites, build and modernise 150 metres of corridors and create a new VIP galley. In total, the company built 309 square metres of hedges and 634 square metres of green walls. It also supplied 82 planters with plants and 122 artificial trees, including a blossoming cherry tree outside the East restaurant that grows from one deck through the ceiling to the one above. CFI CURATED How Bugge & Gjertsen is achieving the incredible Report Bugge & Gjertsen is supplying comprehensive project support for two Hurtigruten expedition vessels – Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen – which are currently under construction at Kleven Verft Shipyard in Ulsteinvik, Norway. “Our work will include detailed design, engineering and project management services for the interiors of the public areas onboard these two extraordinary vessels,” explains Tony Rom Fletcher, technical manager at Bugge & Gjertsen. This will facilitate the delivery of the vessels according to specification and schedule. “Bugge & Gjertsen’s exceptional architectural and engineering departments are at the forefront of the industry and – just like the vessels’ namesake Norwegian explorers – are constantly breaking new ground with their approach,” Rom Fletcher concludes. Tomas Tillberg Design is curating the interiors of SunStone Ships’ sixth infinity-class vessel, which will be delivered in September 2021. This is the latest in a series of 10 ships that the design firm is working on for SunStone. “We’re truly making history – together with an amazing group of professionals at Sunstone, we’re building cruise ships in China for the first time,” said Tomas Tillberg, the firm’s managing partner. “The first vessel – Greg Mortimer – is soon to be delivered.” This November, MSC Cruises’ MSC Grandiosa will debut with a 24-foot-high Sky Trail from Ropes Courses Incorporated (RCI) with 24 elements for participants to traverse across. The attraction will feature a circular layout traditionally favoured by cruise ships as it allows guests to take advantage of the ocean views and allows cruise lines to easily accommodate other entertainment options below. 2 2 CFI CURATED Ship spotlight New interiors Building new ships and revitalising existing vessels gives operators the chance to create exciting onboard venues for guests. We highlight some of the latest standout spaces Intimate luxury A taste of the Alps Exploring in style This summer, Mystic Cruises will launch World Explorer, it’s first ocean-going ship. Renderings of the restaurant, Explorer Lounge, Observation Lounge, theatre, pool with a jacuzzi and pool bar, casino, library and spa suggest the line will easily achieve its goal of offering guests ‘intimate luxury’. AIDA Cruises’ AIDAluna boasts multiple new and renovated venues after a refit at Blohm+Voss shipyard in Germany this April. Topping the list of new attractions is the ski-style lodge Almhütte, which offers fresh draft beer, traditional dishes from the Alps and live music. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ new 230-guest Hanseatic inspiration will debut this October with three restaurants, 120 suites and cabins (many with balconies), a water sports marina and a wellness deck with an outdoor pool, a fitness area with ocean views and an extensive spa. 2 3 Sensory cruising Ideal amenities Bringing Bavaria to sea Endless entertainment Inspired by Scandinavia Elegant simplicity This April, Le Bougainville became the latest Explorer ship to join Ponant’s fleet. In addition to 92 luxurious staterooms and suites with either private balconies or terraces, the vessel offers Blue Eye, a multi-sensorial underwater lounge in her hull. Here, underwater cameras, two portholes, hydrophones and ‘body listening’ sofas allow guests to see, hear and feel the underwater world. A duty-free store, a café, a mahjong room and a lounge with business and economy seating are the top amenities that passengers can look forward to on Fujian Strait Shipping Co’s new high-speed ro-pax ferry. Designed by Incat Crowther, the 1,000-guest ferry will have two vehicle decks and operate between China and Taiwan. A-ROSA Donna is the first of six ships to be modernised as part of A-ROSA River Cruises’ multimillion-pound refurbishment project. The vessel features a renovated restaurant, lobby, atrium, lounge bar, sundeck and cabin, while her speciality dining area has been reimagined with a rustic Bavarian theme to reflect the destinations she visits. When Color Line’s Colour Hybrid launches as the world’s largest plug-in hybrid powered passenger ferry in 2020, she will have plenty to keep guests entertained. Onboard venues will include duty-free stores, a casino, restaurants and bars, areas for young passengers, a theatre lounge, a spa and fitness complex and Aqualand, an indoor water park with a pool, river, waterslide, hot tub and more. In 2020, Finnmarken will undergo Hurtigruten’s most extensive upgrade ever and be converted into a premium expedition cruise ship. She will have five additional suites with panoramic windows, refurbished cabins with natural Scandinavian materials, four new restaurants and an expanded wellness area and a Science Center equipped with high-tech gadgets and other interactive features for guests. Purpose-built for Portugal’s Douro River, AmaWaterways’ newest vessel debuted this April with elegantly designed venues, including a Panoramic Lounge, a fitness room, massage room, a restaurant and 51 spacious staterooms, most of which have balconies. 2 4 CFI CURATED Stories behind the ship designs Love for the unexpected “I love incorporating details that are a bit unexpected and surprising, when you see the wallpaper in the Bonded Store from a distance it reads as a pattern, but up close you realise it’s vintage stamps from Australia and a nod to the history of the country,” said Sture Myrmell, president of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises. Designer water Quiet on deck Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new initiative to eliminate an estimated three million plastic bottles per year by installing Vero Water’s still and sparkling water distillation systems also has a design benefit. “By introducing Vero Water to the Oceania Cruises experience, we are not only taking a quantum leap forward environmentally, we are providing our guests with the gold-standard of still and sparkling water,” said Bob Binder, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises. “Today’s deck solutions must look great and be anti-skid, durable, hard-wearing, environmentally friendly and provide excellent sound insulation qualities. Bolidt achieves this by identifying how many decibels of noise is acceptable in each space on a ship and developing the optimum mix of top layer and underlays to create synthetic flooring systems that meet these needs,” said Jacco van Overbeek, director of Bolidt’s Maritime Division. A natural basecamp on Silver Origin “Silver Origin will elevate our industry-leading offering in the Galapagos Islands, unlocking meaningful experiences for guests, as they travel in ultimate luxury. Ever since the early planning phases, every decision on Silver Origin has been made to strengthen the connection between our guests and this spectacular, unique destination,” said Roberto Martinoli, CEO of Silversea Cruises.

Design is definitely one of them. We are proud to have a real Italian design museum onboard Costa Smeralda, featuring many of the names that have contributed to the ship’s construction and its success,” said Neil Palomba, president of Costa Cruises. “Inspiration for my furniture comes from everywhere. A few years ago, I was so captivated by how hard alabaster had been carved into a soft curved sculpture that I was inspired to design a bench based on the concept of intertwining ribbons. Ideal for indoor and outdoor areas on cruise ships, the Basel Bench has mirrored metal ribbons that artfully flow around a polished stainless-steel base to create a sense of movement,” said Felicia Zwebner, CEO of FZ Collection.

CFI CURATED Stories behind the ship designs Enchanting interiors for Princess newbuild “With our new Sky Suites and enhanced dining and relaxation features on Enchanted Princess [due for delivery in June 2020], we are continuing our commitment to offer new and expansive passenger spaces that meet the needs of our guests who wish to explore the world and connect with each other,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ president. Custom-made luxury on Seven Seas Splendor “Perfecting luxury is about obsessing over large and small details. From specially commissioned one-of-a-kind artwork to visually stimulating touches throughout the ship, each space on Seven Seas Splendor will display finely tailored designs that offer a comfortable and stylish experience for luxury travelers. Seven Seas Splendor [expected to debut in February 2020] will be one of the world’s most spacious, intimate and beautiful ships ever to sail the globe,” said Jason Montague, president and CEO of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Creating new perspectives Suite success for Celebrity Cruises “At Royal Caribbean International, we’re constantly using design to alter the perspective of the room environment. Uplighting and mirrors can help ceilings feel taller. The right pattern on a carpet can lengthen or shorten a space, or provide a subliminal help with wayfinding. Our ships can have very long corridors, so the architects insert fake arches or obstacles to make them appear shorter. One particular feature that really stands out is on Quantum of the Seas; we introduced lenticular wall art, which changes whether you’re walking fore or aft,” said Ben Bouldin, associate vice president and managing director for UK & Ireland at Royal Caribbean International. “We are delighted with the outcome of the refit of Celebrity Millenium and Celebrity Summit – the suites look amazing! Our team delivered a stunning finish as always and we look forward to working with the Celebrity brand on future projects,” said Simon Dawkins, Cruise Key Account Manager at Trimline. 2 7 Green Furniture Concept shares three seating tips Expert insight “Wow, that’s nice” is what every operator wants to hear when guests walk into public spaces on their ships. Using furniture creatively is key to creating welcoming spaces that elicit such a response, says Green Furniture Concept. Furniture should be scaled to fit the size of the room and follow the lines and flows of the space. Shipowners should also look to make furniture a one-of-a-kind installation by using a dynamic mix of materials and colours in different tones. Using natural materials that age well and timeless designs will also keep guests smiling for years to come. Similarly, modular seating options that can be easily reconfigured will enable ship operators to make public spaces feel fresh and exciting throughout the lifecycle of their vessel.

CFI CURATED Art appeal ysa.no “Many cruise lines try to attract younger adults, which requires changes in design and art to create an ambience that also speaks to these guests. The duo Broslo is inspired by fashion, publicity, reuse and street art, creating fun objects filled with energy, embracing humour with an underlying criticism of our consumer society. Everything and anybody may be made fun of. The refreshing out-of-the-box expression engages younger adults (of all ages),” said Trond Sigurdsen, senior architect, partner and chairman at YSA Design. “The centrepiece of the Sea Cloud Lounge on Sea Cloud is the fireplace, mantle and the carving above it – it is the most valuable work of art on the ship. American socialite and owner of General Foods Marjorie Merriweather Post purchased the mantle as a whole in England during the 1920s, and it was incorporated into the main salon on our ship Sea Cloud with additional carvings in the same classical Roman-era ‘egg and dart’ motif, which is continued around the room (and echoed overhead in Sea Cloud II’s Lounge). Elsewhere in the room, guests can see wood carving done in the style of the 17th Century English carver Grinling Gibbons. Although we can’t confirm if our fireplace is a real Gibbons carving, it certainly bears his trademark signature: a peapod. Peapods in Gibbons’ work were said to be portrayed as bursting open when his commission had been paid, but closed otherwise – the ones on our ship are certainly open!” said Daniel Schäfer, managing director of Sea Cloud Cruises. Attracting new audiences Giving antique art new life on ships Photo: icart.net P&O Cruises has commissioned a piece of artwork from artist Sebastian Chaumeton, who is set to graduate Chelsea College of Arts this year. The piece will adorn for the dancefloor of the children’s club on upcoming ship Iona. 3 2 Taking a chance on new talent

Phase one has just been completed in Dunkirk. Here, Trimline worked closely with SMC Design to give the ships a fresh new look. “We completely refurbished everything aft of and adjacent to the shops on both port and starboard sides,” said Neil Quinlan, Trimline key account manager. “This included seating areas, port and starboard serveries, flooring and toilets. The finished look and feel of these areas is instantly impressive – they are now bright, modern spaces that reflect the DFDS brand image. “We look forward to the continued upgrading of public spaces in the 2020 winter refit season.”
