TUI Cruises plans to enter the river cruise industry for the first time with three new passenger ships in summer 2020.

Branded as TUI River Cruises, the operator will offer bespoke adults-only packages that will enable guests to choose their board basis, cabin type, drinks packages and more.

The brand’s destination services team will also develop a varied shore excursion programme that includes everything from active adventures to sightseeing tours with local experts, bicycle tours and much more. Each guest will receive £120 (US$157) credit to put towards any shore excursion.

“We’re incredibly excited to be moving into the river cruise market, we’re always looking for new opportunities to offer our customers even more variety when it comes to choosing the perfect holiday and our river cruises will really take this to the next level as customers are able to personalise their package whether that’s board type, cabins, excursions and even cocktail choice,” said Chris Hackney, managing director of Cruise for TUI UK & Ireland.

All three of the ships will be revamped before they launch to offer “chic” public spaces, such as a fine dining restaurant offering á la carte meals, casual eateries, social areas and entertainment venues. There will also be a range of accommodation, including a “handful” of private balcony suites.

“We’re very proud to be known for the friendliest service, exciting itineraries and great value for money when it comes to our ocean cruises and we look forward to bringing this to TUI River Cruises,” said Hackney.
