Interior commentary: A new use for LEDs
The Sirona air filter is the world’s first air cleaning unit for a small cabin environment

Since installing the first LED reading light on a commercial aeroplane in 1998, Beadlight has developed various LED lighting solutions for ocean and river cruise ships, superyachts, aeroplanes and contract interiors. Over the past six years we have been focusing on building our design team’s capabilities to enable us to develop new technologies and offer a wider range of products to the market.

Our work within the maritime, aerospace, contract interiors and medical device industries has given our R&D team the expertise to look beyond simply using LEDs for illumination purposes and instead explore innovative ways they could be used in other devices. This is how we developed the Sirona air filter, which is the world’s first air cleaning unit for a small cabin environment, such as those on passenger ships.

Designed with carefully considered angles and flowing lines, Sirona filters the air in guest cabins to prevent the spread of infection and reduce the likelihood of illness – both while the guest is onboard and once they leave the ship to return home. The unit is discreetly backlit with LED light to help create a calming ambience in the cabin, once again enhancing the guests’ onboard experience.
