Cruise and hospitality software development company Sourcetoad has released its 2021 Cruise Mobile Apps Annual Report, which presents research on the primary guest-facing apps in the cruise industry.

The report includes a review of features across the apps, an overview of the tools and key players in the cruise app field, and a discussion of future trends. It is based on the findings of Sourcetoad’s own research and is supplemented with insights from industry experts and stakeholders, including cruise executives and mobile app developers.

This year’s report found that development teams have added a range of new features to aid operations during the Covid-19 pandemic, with health questionnaires and contactless check-in now included in almost every application. However, according to the report, much of this development has taken place in silos, with different lines adopting different approaches.

"Onboard apps are at the core of every cruise line's strategy," said Greg Ross-Munro, CEO of Sourcetoad. "We write this report every year to better understand app trends across the industry, identify critical gaps, and reveal opportunities for all cruise lines and mobile app developers. This report is a useful guide to all cruise industry professionals to help identify what features are most important to guest experience on board a cruise ship."

The full report can be viewed via Sourcetoad’s website.
