Celebrity Cruises’ new Celebrity Edge will offer a spa created by British designer Kelly Hoppen, MBE, which will boast a relaxation lounge, multiple speciality treatment tables and a SEA Thermal Suite that comprises eight therapeutic experiences.

Spanning 22,000 square feet, The Spa is inspired by nature and designed around a SEA theme that incorporates elements of the sea, earth and air into both the decoration and the treatments.

Highlights will include bespoke blended essences that fill the air of the spa, a sculpture that serves as a reception desk, a relaxation lounge, and the SEA Thermal Suite, an evolution of the Persian Garden found on other Celebrity ships. The eight therapeutic experiences include the hammam, salt room, steam room, rainfall water therapy room, float room, an infrared sauna, heated tile loungers and the Crystalarium. AquaClass guests receive complimentary access to the SEA Thermal Suite, as well as other complimentary amenities.

“The spa has always been a sacred space to me; as a young girl, I always dreamed of designing my very own spa and Celebrity Edge proved to be the perfect outlet for living out my dreams,” said Hoppen, who has also designed the ship’s accommodation and The Retreat. “A spa is a place where one goes to relax and be pampered, so for me The Spa had to be neutral in palette and complementary lighting, evoking a sense of calmness. Every aspect of the design is meaningful to me; from the dramatic crystal installation – which was inspired by the qualities that crystals have had on my life – to the imposing and dramatic, yet zen, sculpture acting as a reception desk.”

The Spa will boast a series of speciality treatment tables, including the WellMassage4D Table; the MLX Quartz Table, which has warm crystals that mould to the users’ body to release muscle tension; and the Spa Wave MLW Amphibia Table, which has customisable colour therapy lighting and water filled cushions that adapt to guests’ bodies.

Guests will be able to choose from more than 124 treatments, including the Ocean Spa Wave Massage, Hot Mineral Body Boost, Poultice-Powered Muscle Release, Zero Gravity Wellness Massage, Restorative Salt Stone Massage, and Thousand Flower Detox Wrap. Other Celebrity firsts will include Elemis Biotec facials and Ideal Image Ocean – The Advanced MedSpa, which offers aesthetic services such as Dysport Wrinkle Treatments and Restylane Dermal Filler Treatments. Celebrity has also partnered with luxury haircare brand Kérastase to open the first ever Kérastase Institute at sea. The products used in treatments will be available for guests to purchase via the interactive Elemis Ingredient Wall.

Celebrity Edge will also have a fitness centre that offers Celebrity Cruises’ first hot yoga, Technogym group cycle, cardio boxing, Peloton spin cycle bikes and ‘Bungee Fit’ classes.

“Our aspiration for The Spa was the same aspiration we have for Celebrity Edge – to provide our guests with a deeper and more profound connection to the sea,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “To start the revolution in relaxation, we turned once again to the visionary Kelly Hoppen to completely transform the spa experience and develop an atmosphere that envelops you in luxury and soothes your soul from the moment you walk in.”

The Spa was developed in partnership with One Spa World, part of the Steiner Leisure group,

“As we curated The Spa journey with Celebrity, the inspiration behind this revolutionary concept was to connect guests with nature while delivering distinctive sensory experiences, uncompromising service, and a wealth of new wellness choices that are exclusive at sea,” said Glenn Fusfield, president and CEO, One Spa World. “We’ve created a concept that not only evolves spa and wellness, but also sets the new standard.”

Celebrity Edge, which will feature various other innovations, will be delivered by Fincantieri this autumn. The vessel will be christened by Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Noble Peace Prize recipient and now Nobel Laureate and UN Messenger of Peace.

Homeporting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Celebrity Edge will sail her first cruise on 1 December and then spend her inaugural season offering alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruise itineraries. In 2019, she will reposition to the Mediterranean to provide a range of seven- to 11-night sailings from cities like Barcelona, Spain and Rome, Italy.
