The Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec and Cruise the Saint Lawrence have issued an update on the impact of Covid-19 on the tourism industry in the Canadian province.
Working with regional and industry tourism associations, the Alliance is focusing on supporting companies through the crisis and preparing for a relaunch once it subsides. The organisations are also advising all tourism professionals to follow government recommendations in their response to the pandemic.
“With each passing day, we more clearly appreciate the extent to which businesses across the tourism sector with direct or indirect involvement in the Saint Lawrence cruise industry operations are increasingly and significantly impacted by the Covid-19 coronavirus,” said Tony Boemi, president of Cruise the Saint Lawrence. “We empathise with and understand the situation in which these entrepreneurs and their employees find themselves. That said, we remain confident that our governments will propose economic measures intended to support the socioeconomic fabric of our industry.”
In close collaboration with the Quebec Government’s Ministry of Tourism, the Alliance is coordinating its actions and ensuring open and continuous communications with its members. It is also recommending to the government necessary financial measures for the support of the tourism industry, as well as asking companies to visit the Alliance’s Covid-19 page to access information and references made available by the Alliance and other regional and industry associations.
All tourism association partners have agreed that the Alliance will act as the sole representative for the Quebec tourism industry outside of Montréal and Québec City.
“Tourism is a resilient industry that possesses a great capacity to bounce back. I would like to thank your association very much for working with us during these difficult times,” said Martin Soucy, CEO for the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec. “By being united, not only will our industry weather this ordeal together, but we can emerge stronger than ever.”
