P&O Ferries is to invest £8.5 million to upgrade the two ro-pax ferries on its Hull-Zeebrugge route between the UK and Belgium.

Both the 32,000gt Pride of York and Pride of Bruges will enter dry dock at Remontowa Shipbuilding’s yard in Gdansk, Poland.

Highlights of the work will include major changes to the ferries’ physical infrastructure and passenger areas to update food and beverage outlets and revamp shops. Cabins will also be fitted with new lighting, bedding and en-suite bathrooms, as well as improved temperature controls. All of the Club-class cabins will be completely refurbished with new carpets, curtains and furniture.

“This major investment will take both vessels up to the next level in terms of outstanding customer service,” said Janette Bell, chief commercial officer at P&O Ferries. “Dining on a ship overlooking the North Sea is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the crossing and we will be adding a wide variety of international dishes to our menus.” Bell added: “Shopping with P&O Ferries is one of the things for which we are best known and we'd like to remind our customers why it makes sense to take advantage of our highly competitive prices.”
