Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku has floated out the third Icon-class ship, Legend of the Seas, which is scheduled to be delivered to Royal Caribbean International in summer 2026.
A traditional float out ceremony was held at the shipyard in Turku at the end of August and included speeches by representatives of the shipyard and the cruise line. Legend of the Seas was also given a gun salute and a friendly competition amongst shipyard workers was held to open the water valves of the construction basin.
“Legend of the Seas continues the state-of-the-art Icon-class, which allows the Finnish maritime industry to showcase its unique expertise at its best,” said Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku. “The shipyard, Royal Caribbean, and an extensive network of partners work together to develop the processes and concepts from ship to ship. Alongside its sister ships, Legend of the Seas will also mark an important milestone in increasingly responsible shipbuilding.”

The ship, which is 365 metres long and approximately 248,000gt, has since moved to an outfitting dock, where finishing work will continue ahead of its delivery.
The fourth, as yet unnamed, Icon-class ship is under construction at the shipyard and is expected to be completed in 2027. Royal Caribbean International’s first and second Icon-class ships, Icon of the Seas which was delivered in 2024 and Star of the Seas, which was christened in July 2025 at Port Canaveral, were also built by Meyer Turku. The shipbuilder’s construction agreement with Royal Caribbean International includes the option to build a fifth and a sixth Icon-class ship.
