Royal Caribbean International has officially named its newest Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, in a ceremony at Port Canaveral, Florida.
The event brought together crew members, executives and guests in Star of the Seas’ AquaTheater, including godmother and research astronaut Kellie Gerardi, who bestowed her blessing on the ship, its crew, and future passengers.
“Star of the Seas combines my passions for exploration and family time,” said Gerardi. “I’m honoured to serve as godmother and to celebrate this milestone with Royal Caribbean.”
The ship features eight neighbourhoods, each of which offer a range of experiences. Families with young children can visit the Surfside neighbourhood, while the dining and entertainment options include more than 40 venues and productions such as Back to the Future: The Musical.
“Star of the Seas represents the next step in our mission to reimagine vacations,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “It brings together innovation, signature experiences, and sought-after destinations into one vacation for all ages.”
