Island Princess to be fourth Princess ship to feature new Ocean Medallion

Princess Cruises’ Island Princess will be the fourth cruise ship to feature Carnival Corporation’s new Ocean Medallion Class experience.

The Medallion Class Ocean Vacations will first debut on Regal Princess on 13 November 2017, followed by Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in early 2018, and Island Princess on 16 May 2018. Island Princess will sail a seven-day ‘Voyage of the Glaciers’ itinerary between Vancouver and Anchorage in Alaska.

“As the leading cruise line in Alaska, it’s fitting that our fourth ship to feature Medallion Class Ocean Vacations is Island Princess,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president. “Sailing on our most popular Voyage of the Glaciers itinerary, our guests will enjoy the best Alaska has to offer and enjoy an elevated cruise vacation experience – connecting each other and the extraordinary people and culture of the ‘Great Land’ in a more memorable way.”

Unveiled by Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald during his opening keynote at CES 2017 in January, the Ocean Medallion is a first-of-its-kind wearable device that can be worn or carried by passengers to anticipate their every onboard need and deliver a fully personalised cruise experience.

The Ocean Medallion is powered by proprietary technology developed by Carnival Corporation, which includes an internet of things network of intelligent sensors and experiential computing devices. It can be accessorised with jewellery, clips, key chains and bands, or carried in a pocket.

Guests will be able to use the Ocean Medallion to locate other passengers on the cruise ship, access their staterooms as they approach the door (eliminating traditional keycards), and enable guests to purchase merchandise without any transaction, cards or paper.

In addition, the medallion will deliver enhanced dining experiences based on individual guests’ food and beverage preferences, power multiple interactive gaming and immersive entertainment experiences, and significantly enhance interactions with crew members and guests. It will also streamline and expedite the port embarkation and disembarkation process.

The Ocean Medallion pairs with an optional personalised digital concierge called the Ocean Compass, a digital portal that can be accessed online, via guests’ smart devices, stateroom TVs, interactive surfaces throughout the cruise ship, on devices carried by guest services hosts, and on kiosks in homeports.
