Global Ports Holding (GPH) has opened a new cruise terminal in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

The 14,000-square-metre terminal, developed in partnership with local partner Sepcan, is part of a €40 million ($46 million) investment plan by GPH to modernise the cruise terminals in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. It has the operational capacity to accommodate up to four cruise ships simultaneously and features three boarding bridges, delivered by Milan Port Equipment through GPH’s alliance with Talleres Milan. It also features energy-efficient systems, solar power solutions and responsible waste management, and was constructed by Satocán following the latest sustainability standards.

GPH also worked with the Port Authority of Las Palmas to ensure the improvement of surrounding areas to ensure arrival and departure for cruise passengers is a safe and smooth process.

An inauguration ceremony at the terminal was attended by executives from GPH and Port Authority of Las Palmas, including Mehmet Kutman, chairman of GPH, and Beatriz Calzada, president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas. Also in attendance were local and regional authorities, security forces, business leaders and members of the port community. The ceremony highlighted the terminal’s strategic importance and its positive economic impact on the city.

“Las Palmas holds a strategic position within global cruise itineraries, and this new terminal represents an important step in further strengthening the destination’s role within the international cruise market,” said Kutman. “Through our collaboration with the Port Authority of Las Palmas and our local partner Sepcan, we share a common vision to develop modern, future-ready cruise infrastructure that supports cruise line operations, enhances the passenger journey and contributes to the sustainable growth of the destination.”

Calzada said the opening of the new terminal represents much more than the launch of a new infrastructure. “It confirms that the Port of Las Palmas is ready to continue growing, offering top-quality services and responding to the trust that major international cruise lines place each year in our port and in the Canary Islands as a destination,” she said.
