For many years, the TVs in suites onboard cruise ships have been primarily used to deliver entertainment. Now, however, many operators are harnessing the power of digital technology to transform these devices into interactive portals for communicating with their guests.

Ultra-luxury brand Silversea Cruises, for example, has implemented Nevron’s internet protocol television (IPTV) solution to enable it to provide information about itineraries, menus and more.

Nevron’s solution provides TV and radio channels over an IP network, enabling Silversea to offer guests on-demand access to movies and music, interactive entertainment, a communication platform and informative applications. Guests can access this information via both the screens of the TVs in their suites and a mobile application.

Silversea cites flexibility, reliability and automation as the key benefits of the solution. Nevron’s IPTV solution also runs on Android and supports third-party applications and web technologies, making it quick and easy for Silversea to develop and deploy new features and applications. Now, Silversea’s crew members can let the system automatically manage entertainment and communications, allowing them to focus on serving guests instead.

“Nevron’s solution makes it easy for us to develop an application and automate tasks,” says Sébastien Dor, director of onboard automation at Silversea Cruises. “Nevron has also provided us with all the tools we need to evolve the system with our customers. The service and experience that Silversea offers is tailored for each individual guest. While Nevron can offer a turnkey solution, it is also able to support all the specificities of our cruise product. We offer a high level of quality and flexibility in our brand, so it was important to find a reliable partner who shares the same values.”
