Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) has named Captain Evans Hoyt and Captain Hakan Svedung as the captains of its 4,000-passenger newbuild Norwegian Breakaway.
Hoyt has over 35 years of experience and joined NCL in 2005, serving as captain of Pride of America, Norwegian Spirit and two other vessels in the Norwegian fleet. Svedung, who joined NCL in 2006 after working for Star Cruises, one of NCL’s shareholders, will serve as Breakaway’s captain in Hoyt’s absence.
The cruise line also announced that Denis Prguda will act as hotel director on Breakaway and will be responsible for all guest areas, including the 28 dining options, entertainment and nightlife venues, as well as family and recreational activities and staterooms. Since assuming the role of hotel director in 2008, Prguda has served as hotel director onboard Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Epic.
“These team members have a proven track record as successful leaders in our operations team and possess the dedication and passion that will make the launch of Norwegian Breakaway in New York City our most successful new ship launch to date,” said Kevin Sheehan, NCL’s chief executive officer.
Norwegian Breakaway is scheduled for delivery on 25 April 2013 and will sail to Rotterdam for a two-night maiden cruise on 26 April, followed by a one-night cruise from Rotterdam to Southampton on 28 April in preparation for an inaugural event in Southampton on 29 April. The ship will be christened in its New York City homeport on 8 May, where it will offer two, two-night cruises, before embarking on a series of seven-day cruises to Bermuda beginning on 12 May.
