Armacell’s halogen-free insulation, NH/ArmaFlex Smart C, has now been approved for use at sea with certification from the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The certification confirms that the insulation meets the IMO’s fire safety standards and offers 50 per cent less smoke emission compared to conventional flexible elastomeric foams, which can significantly improve visibility in the event of a fire.
The insulation material is halogen free, meaning it releases no corrosive gases that could react with firefighting water to form corrosive acids. It also has a fireglass-reinforced foil surface which makes it resistant to oils, chemicals and mechanical impact.
“This certification underlines our commitment to developing high-performance, halogen-free insulation materials that combine safety, efficiency and ease-of-installation,” said Sascha Kaiser, product manager for EMEA at Armacell.
