Wärtsilä is to deliver exhaust gas cleaning systems – known as scrubbers – to three of Finnlines ro-ro ferries, which operate in the North and Baltic seas.

The three Finnlines vessels will be fitted with Wärtsilä’s hybrid in-line scrubber system, which will enable them to operate in both open- and closed-loop modes. The system is also compact, making it an efficient space- and weight-saving solution. The scrubbers will be delivered in early 2016. This is the second order Finnlines has placed with Wärtsilä for scrubbers. Last year, the company delivered scrubbers for six vessels.

“We are very pleased to call on Wärtsilä again to provide us with the latest emissions abatement technology and know-how,” said Tapani Voionmaa, group general counsel at Finnlines. “This is an important step towards having our entire Baltic fleet equipped with scrubbers and in fully operational service.”
