Cunard Line is to completely redesign the Kings Court buffet dining venue onboard Queen Mary 2 as part of her multimillion-dollar refit between 27 May and 21 June 2016.

Developed over the past 18 months using feedback from Cunard guests and the onboard galley teams, the new Kings Court design includes a more open central buffet area and reconfigured seating arrangements. The venue will be decorated with Art Deco-inspired chandeliers, artwork, areas of timber flooring and mirrors, which will be used to accentuate the ocean view.

Other enhancements will include updated menus and cooking demonstrations. Although the emphasis will be on self-service, the venue will offer and waiter service for drinks orders.

The Chef’s Galley area will serve Italian pastas and pizzas for lunch and a Chef’s Table tasting menu paired with complimentary wines on select evenings. Guests will also be able to enjoy hot and cold buffet options, light snacks, afternoon treats and various cuisine options in the evenings, including Indian, Italian, pan-Asian, and Tex Mex.

“The remastered Kings Court is one of the most exciting innovations of Queen Mary 2’s dramatic refit,” said Richard Meadows, president of Cunard North America. “From new culinary experiences, to a pleasant, easygoing flow, we are confident that this thoughtfully redesigned dining experience is befitting of our guests’ sensibilities, tastes and expectations.”

UK-based SMC Design is to lead design efforts for the refurbishment project, introducing ‘classic Deco touches’ inspired by Cunard’s heritage, and new signature colour schemes, carpets, furniture and more decorative fixtures and fittings throughout the vessel.

During the 25-day refit, Queen Mary 2 will also be fitted with 15 new single cabins, 30 more Britannia Club cabins and an expanded area for pet kennels. She will also be updated with new features that have been tested with thousands of past and future Cunard guests worldwide over the past 18 months.

Earlier this year, Cunard also revealed that it will transform Queen Mary 2’s Winter Garden into the Carinthia Lounge, which will serve light breakfasts and lunch. The venue will also offer a dedicated patisserie and afternoon tea service, including the option of a Veuve Cliquot Champagne Afternoon Tea experience. At night, the Carinthia Lounge will offer ‘premium wine, small plates and relaxed entertainment’.
