Blohm + Voss is to carry out an extensive 25-day drydock refurbishment on Cunard Line’s flagship at its yard in Hamburg, Germany next summer.

During the drydock, which will take place between 27 May and 21 June, Queen Mary 2 will be fitted with 15 single staterooms, enabling the ship to accommodate multi-generational groups and single travellers. Blohm + Voss will also install 30 additional Britannia Club Balcony Staterooms and expand the Britannia Club restaurant, which is exclusively open to these guests.

In addition, the ship will feature ten more kennels for dogs and cats, while both a lamp-post and a fire hydrant will be installed on the area of deck reserved for dog walking. Queen Mary 2 currently offers dedicated kennels for up to 12 dogs and cats on each Transatlantic crossing.

“Queen Mary 2 is a ship that turns heads everywhere she goes, she is the pride of the Cunard fleet and we are committed to ensuring her reputation grows ever stronger,” said Angus Struthers, Cunard director. “These enhancements are just the beginning of an exciting revitalisation for Queen Mary 2 and we look forward to making more announcements about this impressive refit in the coming months.”

Cunard has also undertaken extensive research to inform a series of further developments which will be revealed over the coming months.
