AmaWaterways is to make history in 2019 when it launches a new ship twice the width of traditional European river cruise vessels, with the industry’s first open watersports platform.

AmaMagna will accommodate 194 guests in 98 standard staterooms – most which will be some of the largest in the river cruise industry at 300 square feet – as well as four suites and 1 Ama Owners suite. Additional amenities will include a large heated pool with a whirlpool and sky bar, multiple dining options including an al fresco glass-enclosed restaurant, a spa area offering new treatments, a fitness room that can cater for small group classes, and common areas for hosting onboard events.

The ship will also have the river cruise industry’s most fuel-efficient engine. Plus, it will debut the river cruise industry’s first-ever open watersports platform, complete with zodiac boats, canoes and recreational equipment.

“While this new double-width concept has been on the table for some time, we believe, given the unique demand that exists, that now is the perfect time to introduce this style of ship,” said Rudi Schreiner, president and co-owner of AmaWaterways. “AmaMagna will provide guests with generous personal space, the freedom of multiple dining choices and exceptional stateroom comfort. Combining this with our award-winning cuisine, noteworthy shore excursions and remarkable onboard service, we feel this ship is a game-changer.”

Construction for AmaMagna began on 6 March 2017, and the ship will sail on the Danube when she debuts in 2019.
