Virgin Voyages has introduced NAPA Fleet Intelligence’s real-time new real-time environmental key performance indicator (KPI) reporting tool to support environmental performance monitoring, reporting and regulatory compliance.

The Environmental Module forms part of NAPA Fleet Intelligence and provides real-time environmental key KPI reporting based on operational data captured directly onboard and synchronised continuously with onshore teams.

The module was developed by NAPA in collaboration with passenger ship operators, with a focus on aligning shipboard data capture with shoreside operational and reporting needs.

“Reliable environmental reporting starts with reliable operational data,” said Marco Carsjens, fleet captain at Virgin Voyages. “By connecting onboard data directly to fleet-wide environmental reporting, we gain greater transparency, faster insight and more confidence in the information we use for compliance, ESG reporting and day-to-day decision-making, without adding manual workload for our crew and shoreside teams.”

The Environmental Module consolidates data from NAPA’s electronic logbooks and voyage reporting systems and applies automated calculations to generate environmental KPIs at both vessel and fleet level. KPI definitions and calculation methods are configured jointly with the operator to reflect specific operational profiles and reporting requirements.

Environmental data is grouped into four categories: carbon, fuel and energy performance; waste and waste discharge; water and wastewater management; and operational context, including passenger numbers, nautical miles sailed and port calls. KPIs can be reviewed across multiple timeframes, from daily performance to quarterly and annual trends, and exported for regulatory and internal reporting.

By generating reports directly from shipboard data sources, the module reduces manual data consolidation and re-entry, improving data quality, auditability and transparency while lowering the risk of errors.

Virgin Voyages is among the first operators to deploy the module, providing live operational data to its marine and sustainability teams.

“Environmental reporting has become both more important and more complex for the maritime industry,” said Sami Koponen, product owner for cloud and safety solutions at NAPA. “By integrating environmental KPIs directly into NAPA Fleet Intelligence, we support cruise operators in moving from reactive reporting to proactive performance management, improving data quality while easing workload for crews and shoreside teams.”
