Global maritime solutions provider Vikand Medical Solutions is to provide medical consultancy services for Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours’ new expedition cruise yacht, Scenic Eclipse.

VIKAND will provide medical design consulting during the shipbuilding phase and develop standard operating procedures to help Scenic achieve efficiency, quality, and uniformity for onboardmedical operations. The company will also help Scenic to develop the ship’s medical clinic, advising on the best possible technologies and equipment.

Following the ship’s launch, VIKAND will provide ongoing management services, equipment calibration and servicing, and formulary management.

“We are pleased to engage with VIKAND to help us manage the challenging environment of maritime medical care on a global basis,” said Hans Heger, general manager of ocean operation and Ocean Operation. “The experienced team will ensure that our ship’s medical crew are supported and receive advice as to the appropriateness of care, standard operating procedures, and medical equipment maintenance.”

Currently under construction at Croatia’s Uljanik Shipyard, Scenic Eclipse will be delivered in August 2018 and is the first ocean vessel for Scenic. The expedition ship has been designed with the highest passenger ship ice-class rating – Polar Class 6 – to allow it to operate in polar waters. The yacht will also be equipped with zero-speed stabiliser fins that are 50% larger than the standard model.

Scenic Eclipse will accommodate 228 guests in 114 all-veranda suites and will also offer six onboard dining options; various bars and lounges; a 240-seat theatre. The ship will also have a 5,000 square foot spa with treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis and plunge pools; and a gym with a separate yoga and Pilates studio. In addition, guests will be able to use a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks, scuba diving and snorkelling equipment, two onboard helicopters, and a seven-seat submarine.

A sister ship, named Scenic Eclipse II, will be delivered by Uljanik in 2020.
