Marine interior refit company Trimline teamed up with Marella Cruises to refurbish Marella Explorer in Puerto Real, Spain.

The four-week refit involved a complex refurbishment of the ship’s main restaurant, Latitude & Vista. This included the installation of an ultra-high-efficiency lighting system that is 15 per cent more efficient than standard LED drivers, saving 130 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Trimline’s new app, TAPP, contributed towards keeping customers, suppliers and contractors connected. The app monitors progress, breaks tasks down to be more manageable, tracks purchase statuses, logs team members and provides contractors with access to a portal of all relevant documents.

As the main outfitter onboard, the Trimline team comprised floor layers, decorators, joiners, upholsterers, tilers, electricians, French polishers, welders and hard-surface repairers, all of which collaborated using the app.

Trimline was also responsible for installing a fully interactive LED dance floor, recovering all loose seats in an onboard bar, carpeting 60 cabins and refurbishing other entertainment areas such as the pool deck, cinema and destination services.

“Trimline’s team did a great job during the latest update onboard Marella Explorer with fantastic project management skills,” said Matt Easton, hotel refurbishment manager at Marella Cruises. “By using TAPP, I had constant access to live data, allowing me to see exactly where Trimline were against their plan and when an area was ready for sign off. We had total transparency throughout the project which gave us confidence that we would complete on-schedule.”
