French shipbuilder STX France showcased a new passenger ship concept designed for the expedition cruise market.
Named Ulysseas, the concept ship measures 145 metres in length and 18 metres in width, enabling it to cater for up to 200 passengers and access the most remote parts of the world. It was developed under STX France’s Ecorizon R&D programme, which aims to reduce ships’ environmental impact, eliminate discharge at sea and lower their emissions.
“STX France’s teams have developed an original, environmental friendly and sophisticated ship, both in terms of exploration means and comfort, while ensuring a high safety level,” said Laurent Castaing, managing director STX France. “This concept highlights once more our innovation capabilities through the technical progresses implemented. Shipbuilders have to suggest solutions or evolutions to their customers, and I’m confident in the fact that the technological bricks presented in Ulysseas concept will arouse the interest of the cruise business specialists.”
Usysseas will offer four cabin classes, each with an integrated balcony and a sea-facing bed, while some will feature Jacuzzis. To maximize the sea views, STX France has installed full-height glazed windows in the cabins, restaurants, conference lounge, bars, the spa and the Observation Lounge. The ship will also have a spa and a solarium covered by a sliding glass roof.
In addition, the vessel will also have a top-deck ‘helibar’ to accommodate a helicopter and an inside embarkation zone that allows passengers to safely board rigid inflatable boats that are launched via an aft ramp. It will also have an aft marina to enable passengers to enjoy jet-ski activities and kayaking.
