American Cruise Lines has revealed the interior spaces for its new class of modern riverboats, which have been designed by Miami-based firm Studio DADO.

“American’s new interior design concept for our modern riverboats is the next evolution of the series,” said Charles Robertson, president and CEO of American Cruise Lines. “All the riverboats to come will continue to feature the graceful structural innovations that debuted several years ago with the first few riverboats in the series. This includes the patented opening bow and retractable gangway, the glass atriums, and the 100 per cent private balcony accommodations that are now standard on all our modern riverboats. Today’s unveiling is more about the fresh interior design concept for the newest boats moving forward.”

The project represents Studio DADO’s first work in the river cruise sector and is the first time that American Cruise Lines has partnered with an outside design firm for its small ships and modern riverboats. American Melody will be the first ship to feature the new design when she begins sailing on the Mississippi River in summer 2021.

“The magnitude of the American Melody build reaches beyond the normal anticipation we see with clients celebrating the expansion of their fleet,” said Jorge Mesa, founding partner of Studio DADO. “From our first insightful meeting through the entirety of the collaborative design process, our team was clear and honoured, frankly, to step into the moment with American Cruise Lines and create a fresh, but still cultured atmosphere aboard its new ship. We leaned-in and considered every element from palette to architectural structure to functional details- while still paying homage to the brand’s perfectly American origins.”

American Melody will join American Jazz, which will debut on the Mississippi in March 2021, as well as American Song and American Harmony, which will operate along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. An as-yet-unnamed modern riverboat is currently under construction.
