Oceania Cruises’ new ship Sirena is to feature custom-designed Italian mattresses when she debuts in April 2016.
To be available in all stateroom categories and suite accommodations, the Ultra Tranquility Bed is the first of its kind in the cruise industry and features a new spring structure with 3,000 coil springs – four times as many coils as the average American mattress. These micro-springs are individually pocketed and joined by thermally fused points, allowing the springs to work independently to provide maximum user comfort and eliminate noise on movement. The mattresses are quilted with a silver threaded fabric and a layer of thermo fibres to ensure they are anti-static.
The new mattresses will be added to the remainder of the Oceania Cruises fleet – Regatta, Insignia, Nautica, Marina and Riviera – during upcoming drydocks.
“Our suites and staterooms are designed to provide guests with all the comforts they enjoy while at home,” said Jason Montague, president and COO at Oceania Cruises. “The cornerstone of a luxurious room is the bed. Our current mattresses are already recognised as industry-leading and this new Ultra Tranquility Bed far surpasses that lofty standard in comfort to provide our guests with the ultimate sleeping experience.”
Sirena, which is currently sailing as Princess Cruises’ Ocean Princess, will transfer to Oceania Cruises’ fleet in March 2016 and will immediately undergo a 35-day, US$40 million refurbishment in Marseille, France. The line will use the recent makeover of Insignia as a blueprint for the renovation.
The 684-passenger ship will offer six Owner’s Suites, four Vista Suites, speciality dining restaurants Toscana and Polo Grill, Baristas, Grill at Terrace Café. Guests will also be able to dine in two new speciality restaurants – Tuscan Steak and Red Ginger – and a new Jacques Bistro gourmet lunch experience in the Grand Dining Room, which features some of Jacques Pépin’s signature dishes.
Sirena will be christened by cookbook author and TV chef Claudine Pépin during a ceremony in Barcelona, Spain on 27 April. Following a 14-night inaugural cruise from Barcelona to Venice, Italy, the ship will offer Mediterranean and Caribbean itineraries featuring a mix of classic destinations and 11 new ports of call. These include Gaeta, Italy; Golfito, Costa Rica; and La Paz, Mexico.
