Seafy has expanded its Digital Experience Platform with a new push to talk solution that brings operational crew communication directly to smartphones.
Seafy P2T enables crew members to convert their smartphones into push to talk devices and communicate securely via the ship’s Wi Fi network. Designed to complement existing onboard radio and safety communication systems, it provides an additional channel for internal operational communication.
The system connects to a physical server installed on the vessel, which manages voice communications, users and channels locally. This ensures P2T remains fully operational even when the ship has no internet connection. When external connectivity is available, it synchronises with shore-based management tools, allowing crew members to communicate with teams onshore or onboard other vessels in the fleet.
Crew members access their departmental channels through an iOS or Android app, with voice transmission starting in under 100 milliseconds. A talk management feature prevents overlapping communications on the same channel, while tiered priority levels allow high priority messages to override active transmissions when required.
Activity logs are stored locally on the vessel’s infrastructure, giving ship operators access to records via a management dashboard to support internal monitoring and documentation processes. Identities, roles and permissions can also be managed centrally.
The solution is licensed per vessel and supports up to 1,000 users per ship. It is available in three configurations to suit yachts, individual cargo or passenger vessels, and larger fleets.
“A vessel cannot depend on an external connection for its departments to communicate,” said Borgese Raffaele, chief innovation officer of Seafy. “With P2T, crew members can communicate from their smartphones, onboard and without internet access, while the shipping company retains full control of the system.”
