Seabourn Cruise Line marked another milestone in Seabourn Encore’s construction on 22 February when it welded two commemorative gold coins to the ship’s mast.

Held at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard in Italy, the traditional coin ceremony was presided over by madrina Marnie Tihany, the director of business development for Tihany Design and the wife of Adam D. Tihany, who has designed Seabourn Encore’s interiors.

“The coin ceremony represents not only another momentous milestone in the construction of our beautiful new ship, but also an important step in the evolution of our fleet and our leadership in the ultra-luxury cruise category,” said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “With less than a year until the launch of Seabourn Encore, we look forward to more exciting milestones in the coming months.”

Modelled on Seabourn’s Odyssey-class ships, the 41,700gt Seabourn Encore will launch in December 2016 and is the first of two luxury cruise ships Fincantieri will build for the line over the next three years.

The ship will be configured with one additional deck, new expanded public areas, suites with private verandas and is expected to carry just 600 guests.

Passengers can follow the ship’s progress via a dedicated microsite.
