Scenic Group has released the first design details for its new ‘Discovery Yacht’, Scenic Ikon, which is under construction at the company’s MKM Yachts facility in Rijeka, Croatia.
At 26,500 gross tonnes and 205 metres in length, Scenic Ikon will accommodate up to 270 guests in 135 all-verandah suites ranging from 34 to 250 square metres. Purpose-built for both polar and warm-water expeditions, the ship carries a Polar Code 6 rating and an Ice Class 1A Super hull, enabling operations from the Arctic to Antarctica.
The vessel will feature 15 dining and lounge venues, two Airbus helicopters, a Triton AVA submersible (known as Scenic Neptune III), Zodiacs and Fassmer superyacht tenders. A two-level Senses Rejuvenation Spa measuring around 1,700 square metres will form part of the ship’s expanded wellness offering.
“Scenic Ikon has been conceived, engineered and built with our in-house shipbuilding division at MKM Yachts and will be operated entirely by our own dedicated Scenic crew,” said Glen Moroney, founder and chairman of Scenic Group. “This remarkable vessel is the result of more than three years of passion, innovation and development by our team, and we are delighted to share the Discovery Yacht with our valued guests, travel advisors and partners. Every element of Scenic Ikon’s design has been optimised to deliver unrivalled experiences across diverse destinations and environments, from its primary base the Mediterranean to the wilds of Antarctica.”
Construction began with a steel-cutting ceremony in February 2025, attended by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, followed by a keel-laying in May 2025. The ship remains on schedule for completion in late 2027, ahead of its maiden voyage in April 2028 from Venice and an inaugural season visiting 110 ports in 21 countries, including 26 new destinations for Scenic.
