Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has contracted Scanship to supply total clean ship systems for four new cruise ships it is constructing for Viking Ocean Cruises.

As part of the contract, Scanship will deliver waste handling, waste incineration, food waste processing and advanced wastewater purification systems. The advanced wastewater purification system will treat all grey water and black water, removing nitrogen, phosphorous and other emissions in line with industry standards. Scanship will deliver the equipment between 2019 and 2021 and the newbuilds will enter service between 2021 and 2023.

“These will be the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth newbuilds with Scanship total clean ship system built by Fincantieri for Viking Ocean Cruises,” said Henrik Badin, CEO of Scanship. “We are thrilled to continue our long-time cooperation with Fincantieri and Viking Ocean Cruises for environmental sustainability at sea.”
