River cruise ships will be able to call at Royan, the capital of the Côte de Beauté in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France, for the first time in 2020.

Located on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, Royan has a new 54-metre-long pontoon that can accommodate two 135-metre-long river cruise ships at the same time. The vessels can connect to shore power while docked at the pontoon.

Royan, which was largely rebuilt in the 1950s after bombing in World War 2, offers cruise guests the chance to visit various beaches, places of natural beauty, La Palmyre Zoo, art galleries and more. They can also take bicycle tours and enjoy other activities.

One cruise line has already booked calls at Royan in 2020.
