US-based Princess Cruises is to expand its high-speed onboard wi-fi MedallionNet to seven more ships by 2021.
The wi-fi platform is currently available on eight vessels including Crown Princess and Island Princess, which will both be based in the UK in 2020. Sky Princess will offer the network when she launches in October.
The ships that will be updated with the new network are the 2,600-guest Grand Princess and Star Princess; the 2,670-guest Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess; the 3,560-passenger Majestic Princess; and the 3,660-guest Enchanted Princess, which will enter service in June 2020 in Southampton, UK.
“The expansion of MedallionNet, the best wi-fi at sea, means more guests than ever before can stay connected whenever and wherever they are in a fast, affordable and reliable way,” said Tony Roberts, vice president of Princess Cruises for UK and Europe. “MedallionNet offers a new way for us to exceed guest expectations by giving them the freedom to control just how much or little they connect to stream movies, music and sports and share those once-in-a-lifetime holiday moments with friends and family back home.”
Throughout 2020, other vessels will also become OceanMedallion activated. By December 2020, Sky Princess, Ruby Princess, Grand Princess, Enchanted Princess, Emerald Princess and Island Princess will feature the wearable technology that is designed to personalise the onboard experience for passengers.
