Princess Cruises is to expand its Ocean Medallion experience to three more cruise ships – Golden Princess, Crown Princess and Ruby Princess.
Golden Princess, which will sail from the Australian city of Melbourne to the South Pacific, Tasmania, South Australia and New Zealand between October 2018 and April 2019, will debut Ocean Medallion technology in November 2018. Crown Princess will also introduce the experience in November 2018 as she starts her autumn 2018 Caribbean season. Guests on Ruby Princess will be able to use the Ocean Medallion technology from January 2019.
“With the addition of Golden Princess to the fleet of Medallion Class ships, we will make available a more personalised holiday to guests sailing in and around Australia,” said Jan Swartz, group president of Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia. “And, as we continue to enhance our ships with the Ocean Medallion, we do so to further our commitment in providing our guests the most memorable and relaxing holiday.”
Unveiled by Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald during his opening keynote at CES 2017 in January 2017, the Ocean Medallion is a first-of-its-kind wearable device that can be worn or carried by passengers to anticipate their every onboard need and deliver a fully personalised cruise experience.
The Ocean Medallion is powered by proprietary technology developed by Carnival Corporation, which includes an internet of things network of intelligent sensors and experiential computing devices. It can be accessorised with jewellery, clips, key chains and bands, or carried in a pocket.
Guests will be able to use the Ocean Medallion to navigate their way to onboard venues, locate other passengers on the cruise ship, access their staterooms as they approach the door (eliminating traditional keycards), and to purchase merchandise without any transaction, cards or paper.
In addition, the medallion will deliver enhanced dining experiences based on individual guests’ food and beverage preferences, power multiple interactive gaming and immersive entertainment experiences, and significantly enhance interactions with crew members and guests. It will also streamline and expedite the port embarkation and disembarkation process.
The Ocean Medallion pairs with an optional personalised digital concierge called the Ocean Compass, a digital portal that can be accessed online, via guests’ smart devices, stateroom TVs, interactive surfaces throughout the cruise ship, on devices carried by guest services hosts, and on kiosks in homeports.
The first four Princess ships to debut Ocean Medallion will include Regal Princess on 13 November 2017, Royal Princess on 19 January 2018, Caribbean Princess on 28 March 2018 and Island Princess on 16 May 2018.
