Princess Cruises’ second Sphere-class ship, Star Princess, has successfully completed its sea trials, marking a significant milestone in the vessel's construction.

The trials took place from 9–12 August 2025, as the ship departed Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard in Italy for the Adriatic Sea. Star Princess underwent a comprehensive series of tests, including assessments of steering, navigation systems, and propulsion capabilities.

The ship is the second in the Princess fleet to be powered by LNG. It is equipped with two Azipod propulsion units, providing 360 degree thrust for both forward and reverse movement, along with four large controllable pitch bow thrusters,

Captain Gennaro Arma, leader of the Sphere-Class newbuild site team, oversaw the sea trials. Arma is heading a team of 1,600 crew members as the ship enters its final phase of outfitting at the Monfalcone shipyard.

"We confidently led Star Princess through sea trials," said Captain Arma. "As the proud leader of our newest vessel, I'm extremely impressed with the ship's navigation capabilities and manoeuvrability. With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I can't wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall."

Sun Princess will debut with an inaugural season featuring sailings to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska. Its maiden voyage will depart from Barcelona on 4 October.
