Princess Cruises has named award-winning British actor Hannah Waddingham as godmother of its newest ship, Sun Princess. The naming ceremony will take place at the Port of Barcelona in Spain on 23 April 2024.

Sun Princess, which has capacity for 4,300 passengers, made its debut on 28 February 2024 and is currently sailing a series of Mediterranean voyages before it repositions to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, USA, in October to spend the winter season sailing the Caribbean.

The ship is the first of Princess Cruises’ new Sphere-class vessels. Onboard highlights include The Dome, an entertainment venue enclosed by a large glass dome and an updated Princess Arena, which can shift between several different configurations. The Princess Arena will host three new shows – ‘Vallora, A Pirate Quest’, ‘Stage Struck’ and ‘Viva La Música’ – and the reimagined ‘Fiera!’ A range of new culinary options from celebrity collaborators is also available onboard Sun Princess.

“We're delighted to welcome the illuminous and elegant Hannah Waddingham to serve as godmother for our sensational new Sun Princess,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. “Just like Sun Princess, she exudes sophistication, beauty and wonderment through her inspiring work as a talented and award-winning actress and performer. We're truly honoured Hannah will officially name our most impressive, luxurious and stunning Love Boat ever created, and join an esteemed group of Princess godparents, including members of the royal family.”
