The Port of Valencia has become the first port in Spain to implement a passenger border control system compatible with the European Entry/Exit System (EES), with the infrastructure developed by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) in support of the Ministry of the Interior's management of external borders.

The facility is housed in an adapted container equipped with passport scanning technology, identity verification systems and passenger assistance capabilities. It is co-financed 75 per cent by the European Union through the European Fund for Internal Security, with a total budget of €1.17 million ($1.36 million).

The EES records entry and exit data, as well as instances of denied entry, for third-country nationals crossing the external borders of EU member states. The new station also introduces verification, monitoring and logging tablets to support border inspection teams.
