The name was chosen for the distinctive silhouette of the terminal’s roof against the horizon
Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced that the fifth cruise terminal at the Port of Southampton is to be named Horizon Cruise Terminal.
The name was put forward by Anna Chojnacka and was chosen out of nearly 4,000 name suggestions from across the world. Chojnacka wins a seven-night cruise holiday offered by the terminal’s partners MSC Cruises.
The winner of the second token collect competition was Lin Malt from Hampshire. Malt wins a seven-night cruise holidays offered by Norwegian Cruise Line.
“We are delighted to be announcing the name for the port’s newest cruise terminal,” said Alastair Welch, director at ABP in Southampton. “We selected this name as the shape of the terminal roof is such a distinctive silhouette on the horizon as you come through Dock Gate 10. Cruise is such an important part of the city’s heritage, culture and history, and we liked how this name suggests a new start for cruise following a challenging year.”
The terminal will have roof-mounted solar power and will have shore power connectivity installed. Construction is currently proceeding according to schedule, with the terminal set to welcome its first ships from the summer.
