Port Everglades’ cruise and cargo business generated $28.1 billion for Broward County, Florida, in the 2024 financial year – an increase of six per cent from the previous 12 months – according to a new report from industry analyst Martin Associates.
Martin Associates assessed the port’s economic impact in terms of jobs, business revenue, personal earnings and state and local taxes, to produce The local and regional economic impacts of Port Everglades report.
The port’s cargo and cruise sectors support more than 204,300 jobs, including approximately 12,270 roles which are directly dependent on the port’s business activity. This is an increase of almost 14 per cent over the previous financial year. Approximately 9,430 jobs are supported by the $785.9 million spent locally by companies that provide services for the port’s cargo and cruise terminals, as well as businesses shipping and receiving cargo.
Port Everglades is expecting a record-breaking 4.4 million cruise guests by the end of the 2025 financial year. The port has also undertaken several infrastructure projects including the replacement of bulkheads. A master/vision plan update is currently in progress to determine the next series of multiyear investments at the port.
“The numbers demonstrate our port’s position as a leading economic engine is well-earned and of great value to Broward County, and Florida’s residents and visitors,” said Joseph Morris, CEO and port director of Port Everglades. “As we plan for future growth, we are keenly focused on ways to improve our services to our customers and our contributions to the maritime industry.”
