The Port Authority of Cartagena in Spain has launched a public tender for the design, construction and operation of a shore power facility at Juan Sebastián Elcano cruise terminal.

The port aims to implement the shore power system to enable cruise ships to shut down their engines and connect to the electrical grid while berthed at the port, which will reduce emissions and noise. The project is being carried out in line with the European Union’s FuelEU Maritime initiative, which mandates that docks are electrified by 2030.
