Swan Hellenic’s new vessel SH Diana was the first cruise ship to call at the Norwegian islands of Frøya and Hitra in 2023, marking the beginning of a steady increase of cruise traffic to the region.

Frøya and Hitra – which are located just off the coast of Trondheim – offer cruise guests the opportunity to explore the varied coastal scenery that is both “wild and charming”, according to Visit Norway.

Swan Hellenic’s guests were welcomed onshore on 10 May with a guided bus tour to visit the fishing village of Titran, the SalMar factory and the windmill park. They also had the opportunity to taste local delicacies with an experience called ‘A taste of Trøndelag’, which provides charcuterie boxes of local cuisine such as cured meats smoked salmon and cave-aged cheese.

The islands will receive four cruise calls in total this year, a rise from just one call in 2022.
