Amadeus River Cruises will launch a new hybrid river ship on the Douro River – the third longest in the Iberian Peninsula – in March 2028.

Amadeus Douro will be purpose-built to navigate the Douro’s winding passages and historic locks as it transports passengers from Porto, across northern Portugal’s wine-producing regions, to the Spanish border.

The ship will sail between March and November and pass by Portugal’s vineyards, villages and hillsides. It will accommodate 111 guests in 54 staterooms and two suites, most featuring the line’s signature drop-down panoramic windows or private balconies. The public areas, such as the open sun deck, lounges, bars or Café Vienna, will allow passengers the chance to take in the ever-changing scenery of the Douro Valley.

Culinary experiences onboard will highlight the flavours of Portugal, with gourmet cuisine complemented by locally sourced wines.

Further details about the ship’s design, onboard features and inaugural itineraries will be revealed in the coming months.

“We are delighted to bring the Amadeus experience to the Douro, one of Europe’s most beautiful and culturally rich regions,” said Corina Lueftner, head of sales at Amadeus River Cruises. “The Douro Valley has become an increasingly popular destination, and with Amadeus Douro we are excited to offer our partners and guests a truly immersive way to explore its extraordinary scenery, wine heritage and historic towns.”
