Carnival Cruise Line will create six themed zones onboard its newest ship, Mardi Gras, which will be the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by LNG fuel when she debuts in 2020.

Spanning 20 decks, the new ship will offer more than 20 different stateroom categories, multiple suite levels, the Fun 2.0 venues that are found on other Carnival ships, the most expansive open decks in the fleet and the six themed zones.

Located mid-ship, the Grand Central zone will have three-deck-high floor-to-ceiling windows and a bar overlooking the starboard side of the ship. The area, which will be used for entertainment, will also offer easy access to the Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki restaurants, Piano Bar 88 and the line’s first-ever dedicated Punchliner Comedy Club.

At the aft of Deck 6 will be the French Quarter, which will offer new bars, eateries and live entertainment that reflect the culture of New Orleans, US. There will also be a two-deck-high promenade that is linked to a traditional New Orleans jazz club.

Meanwhile, La Piazza on Deck 8 will enable guests to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at the family restaurant Cucina del Capitano, the 24/7 Pizzeria del Capitano, a new Mediterranean-themed seafood restaurant and a bar that will serve coffees during the day and classic Italian cocktails at night.

The Summer Landing at the aft of Deck 8 will be the “ultimate chill spot”, offering an expanded Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, a pool and whirlpools, a new bar, the lunch counter for the Smokehouse Brewhouse and lounge areas.

Higher up the ship on Decks 16-17, the Lido area will offer various casual poolside restaurants, such as Guy’s Burger Joint, the New England-inspired Seafood Shack, and BlueIguana Cantina Mexican eatery. Guests will also be able to enjoy new dining concepts, which will be announced at a later date.

On the top two decks (18-20), guests will be able to enjoy the family-friendly Ultimate Playground, which will boast the largest Carnival WaterWorks aqua park in the fleet and an expanded SportSquare. This area will also be home to Bolt, the first rollercoaster at sea, where guests will be able to race along an 800-foot-long track achieving speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour.

“When our guests ‘Choose Fun’ and book a vacation on Mardi Gras, they are going to find many firsts and exciting experiences, all enhanced by the fun atmosphere our great Carnival crew deliver on every cruise,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We’ve specifically designed Mardi Gras to invite everyone to create their own personalised fun vacation experience with options to suit every age, mood or taste.”

Mardi Gras will also incorporate all of the line’s most popular signature features, including Alchemy Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, and the Serenity adult-only retreat. Additional information about Mardi Gras and the six themed areas will be revealed in the coming months.
