Carnival Cruise Line’s second Excel-class ship is to be called Carnival Celebration.

The name was revealed in a video announcement, as celebrities including presenter Kathie Lee Gifford, restaurateur Guy Fieri and former basketball player Shaquille O’Neal unwrapped boxes that contained the letters of ‘Celebration’. The name was previously used for an earlier ship in the cruise line’s fleet and is intended to recognise Carnival’s 50th birthday celebration, taking place in 2022.

"The name Carnival Celebration couldn't be more perfect for a ship that will be a key component of our 50th birthday festivities," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. "Many thanks to our celebrity partners who helped us officially 'unbox the fun' and reveal the name of a ship that promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet. Carnival Celebration is our 50th birthday present to our guests!"

The ship will debut from PortMiami in November 2022 and will be a sister to Mardi Gras. She will include the BOLT rollercoaster, along with several new features yet to be announced by the cruise line.

Carnival’s 50th birthday celebration will begin in March 2022 with a series of commemorative sailings that will feature unique entertainment and itineraries throughout the year.
