Finland’s Meyer Turku shipyard hosted a steel-cutting ceremony to celebrate the start of the construction process for Royal Caribbean International’s second Icon-class ship on 15 February 2023.

Delegates from Royal Caribbean International and Meyer Turku attended the event to commemorate the milestone.

The Icon-class fleet will help Royal Caribbean to deliver a ‘new era’ of cruise ships, which will enable guests to benefit from the best parts of a holiday, including trips to the beach and adventure parks, as well as all-inclusive resort-style features.

The ship will be completed in 2025, following the debut of Icon of the Seas in January 2025.

The Icon-class fleet will also pilot and test new sustainable technologies as part of Royal Caribbean Group’s goal to operate climate-neutral ships.
