Carnival Cruise Line has taken delivery of its new LNG-powered flagship, Mardi Gras, from Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku.
“We are delivering a beautiful and highly advanced ship with world-class technology such as LNG propulsion,” said Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku. “With these sophisticated systems, she will be one of the most environmentally friendly ships to sail in North American waters. I am very proud of our team of shipbuilders and would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication during the building process.”
At 180,000gt, Mardi Gras will be the largest ship in Carnival’s fleet. Her features include Bolt, the first rollercoaster to be built on a ship, and a three-story-high atrium with floor-to-ceiling windows and movable LED screens. Dining and entertainment venues are dispersed throughout six distinctive zones, and guests will have the choice of over 2600 staterooms and 180 suites across eleven categories.

With this delivery, we can now focus our collective efforts on the building of her sister ship, Carnival Celebration, which will arrive from Turku in 2022 in time for our 50th birthday.”
Mardi Gras is currently scheduled to enter service from Port Canaveral, USA, in April 2021.
