Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) has signed an agreement with Foreship – part of engineering and certification business RINA – to deliver Manta Air Lubrication, a solution based on Foreship’s air lubrication system.

Already installed on more than 25 vessels, the solution creates a controlled layer of air beneath the ship’s hull, reducing friction and helping operators to lower fuel
consumption and emissions.

MMT says Manta Air Lubrication is suitable for retrofit and newbuild projects and can deliver typical net fuel savings of three-to-eight per cent, depending on the type of
vessel and its operating profile. It says the system is especially well-suited for larger vessels where it can deliver significant energy gains.

“We have a strong belief in the potential of air lubrication to transform maritime sustainability,” said Aleksander Askeland, chief financial officer at Manta Marine
Technologies. “This technology is an excellent fit for MMT’s portfolio of intelligent green technologies. By partnering with Foreship, we are ensuring that our customers receive a solution that is not only technically superior but can be seamlessly integrated.”

MMT will oversee full project delivery including design, engineering, feasibility studies, installation, verification, commissioning and lifecycle support, with Foreship helping
with evaluation of technical feasibility, optimisation of system configurations and establishing performance expectations.

“Foreship has developed and refined an air lubrication solution through years of research, engineering, and operational experience,” said Jan-Erik Räsänen, executive director of marine energy transition at Foreship. “By combining our hydrodynamic knowhow and full-scale CFD methodology with MMT’s track record in efficient system delivery and rigorous performance validation, we can help shipowners evaluate, implement, and realise the benefits of air lubrication technology with greater
confidence.”
