AIDA Cruises has officially named it newest ship AIDAperla with the help of godmother, model and presenter Lena Gercke in Palma de Mallorca, Spain on 30 June 2017.

Before the christening, the ship’s 3,000 guests were able to enjoy onboard performances by songwriter Boris Alexander Stein and blues rock musician Marc Amacher, then Irish artist Rea Garvey played an hour-long concert before officially launching the countdown to the naming ceremony, which took place at 10:30pm. The naming ceremony was accompanied by a music and light show, and a firework display.

Following the christening, guests enjoyed parties onboard the ship and performances from ‘The Voice of Germany’ winners Tay Schmedtmann (sixth season) and Jamie-Lee (fifth season), who also represented Germany at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

In keeping with recent AIDA christening tradition, AIDAperla was accompanied by her sister ship AIDAaura in Palma de Mallorca.

AIDAperla began her Mediterranean season on 1 July, sailing seven-day cruises from Palma de Mallorca to Barcelona, Spain via Rome and Florence in Italy, and Corsica, France. In March 2018, AIDAperla will start offering seven-day roundtrips from Hamburg, Germany to destinations in Western Europe such as Southampton, UK; Le Havre, France; Zeebrugge, Belgium; Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
