Isle of Islay, the newest ferry for Scottish operator CalMac Ferries, has completed its second set of sea trials in the Sea of Marmara.
The tests were carried out by Turkish shipbuilder Cemre Marin Endustri from 16-20 July and were attended by staff from CalMac and parent company CMAL. The trials included the set-up and testing of the battery energy storage system, as well as the testing and optimisation of the power management system and energy management system.
“The successful testing of the hybrid system marks a significant step forward in completing this new vessel for Islay and Jura,” said Jim Anderson, director of vessels at CMAL. “The team at Cemre have made good progress in the build programme for the vessel, and we continue to work closely with the shipyard as we move into the final stages of the build.”
Isle of Islay has now returned to the Cemre Marin Endustri yard in Yavlova, Turkey, where it is undergoing further outfitting work. The vessel is due to be delivered in the third quarter of 2025.
