Built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, Legend of the Seas will “level up everything guests love” about Royal Caribbean International’s Icon-class ships to deliver a “larger-than-life adventure” when it debuts in July 2026.

The 248,663gt newbuild will be the third in the Icon series, as well as the fourth in the fleet to be powered by LNG. Like its predecessors Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, the 5,610-guest ship will span 20 decks and have eight neighbourhoods: AquaDome, Chill Island, Royal Promenade, Suite Neighbourhood, Surfside, The Hideaway, Thrill Island and Central Park. The latter will be an open-air space lined with more than 30,500 real plants, restaurants, pick-up windows for food and beverages, and spots hosting live music.

Legend of the Seas will offer more than 20 bars and lounges, as well as 28 dining options – the most on any ship at sea. Many of the eateries will be the same as those onboard other Icon ships, such as Hooked Seafood, hibachi restaurant Izumi, Chops Grille steakhouse, Surfside Eatery and Basecamp. However, the brand has renewed three dining concepts too.

AquaDome Market will feature five additional food stands and a juice and smoothie bar, while the supper club has been redesigned with interiors evoking the ‘golden age’ of Hollywood. The new Hollywoodland Supper Club will serve a multi-course tasting menu paired with cocktails and live music. Elsewhere, guests will be able to visit Royal Railway – Legend Station, a reimagined version of the immersive dining venue on Utopia of the Seas. Here, guests will board replica train carriages to trace Venetian explorer Marco Polo’s journey along the Silk Route from China to India, Persia, Turkey and Italy in the 13th century. The train conductor will share historical and cultural insights as guests taste dishes from each country and watch scenes on digital screens built into the carriage windows.

Other notable family-friendly attractions onboard Legend of the Seas will include the signature Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, Splashaway Bay, the FlowRider surf simulator, and the Crown’s Edge obstacle course, which is suspended 154 feet above the ocean. The ship will also have 10 whirlpools and seven pools.

Some entertainment spaces have been reworked to ensure Legend of the Seas offers a “line-up of unrivalled experiences” for guests of all ages. The ship will have an expanded casino, a Rubber-Duckie-Go-Round carousel in Surfside, a new shipwreck theme at Lost Dunes mini golf course, and an underwater-themed Wonder Playscape with climbing walls, slides, life-size games and an interactive mural depicting sea creatures. Category, the largest waterpark at sea, will be upgraded with six waterslides and a fresh colour palette.

The updated onboard entertainment programme will introduce two at-sea firsts: a production of the Broadway show ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical’ in the Royal Theater, and a remake of global variety show ‘America’s Got Talent LIVE’. There will also be new immersive shows at Absolute Zero, the largest ice arena at sea, and at the AquaTheater, which will have a 55-foot-high waterfall. Plus, there will be seven live music venues.

Families will also have the widest choice of accommodation onboard any Royal Caribbean ship, with many of the 2,805 suites and staterooms incorporating amenities designed for multigenerational groups. Among the most impressive will be the three-deck Ultimate Family Townhouse, which will sleep eight and has been remodelled to provide more purpose-built space for both adults and children.

Children will have a bedroom with two twin beds and a lofted space with bunkbeds, while adults will have a separate master bedroom with a private balcony and bathroom. Other facilities will include two extra bathrooms, a living room, a dining room with an interactive gaming table, a kitchenette, a cinema, a ping pong table, a two-storey slide, a hot tub and a wraparound balcony offering direct access to Surfside via a private patio.

Artwork will be displayed in both the accommodation and public areas to elevate the onboard experience and showcase the destinations the ship will visit. The most prominent piece will be The Pearl, a three-deck-high sphere that will serve as both an essential structural element and the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture. The brand has evolved the design from previous Icon vessels to include moving LED panels displaying colourful animations. Emerging artists from the Caribbean and Central America will also paint large-scale murals in six locations.

“With Legend of the Seas, we are bringing to life our most legendary vacation yet as we continue to push the boundaries with more of what guests know and love,” says Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “Those looking to get the most out of their vacation can have it all with Legend’s combination of adventure-packed experiences and incredible destinations in Europe and the Caribbean.”

Legend of the Seas will begin sailing seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome, Italy, on 4 July. In November, it will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to operate six-night Western Caribbean cruises and eight-night Southern Caribbean voyages.
