The International Maritime Organization (IMO) encourages members of the maritime industry to celebrate International Day for Women in Maritime on 18 May 2023.

The day will celebrate women working in the maritime industry and promote the recruitment and retention of female employees in the sector, as well as draw attention to the profile of women in the sector.

International Day for Women in Maritime also reflects IMO’s commitment to the United Nations’ fifth goal for Sustainable Development focusing on gender equality, which is part of its Women in Maritime Programme.
