Norway-based operator Hurtigruten is to offer winter sailings from the Port of Dover in England in the winter 2021-2022 season – a first for the 126-year-old company.
Hurtigruten will offer a series of 12-day ‘Norway Expedition’ voyages between October 2021 and March 2022, departing from Dover and calling at various ports along the Norwegian coast. The cruises will be offered on Maud, which is currently sailing as Trollfjord and is one of three Hurtigruten vessels that will soon be converted into luxury hybrid-powered expedition cruise ships.
“Hurtigruten’s expedition cruises have an amazing sense of adventure and are a fantastic advocate for green cruising that explores nature at its best,” said Barbara Buczek, chief commercial officer at the Port of Dover. “We are really excited to be working with Hurtigruten to bring a new winter cruise season to Dover, and to become the line’s first-ever UK port of call.”
Guests will be able to participate in a complimentary activity each day, allowing them to explore the local history, culture or wildlife of the destinations they visit. Hurtigruten will also increase the number of expedition team members that are sailing onboard the ship to provide lectures and additional information.
“We are delighted to launch our first ever season from Dover,” said Anthony Daniels, managing director of Hurtigruten UK. “This new route offers a truly exceptional way for guests to explore the coast of Norway and experience the Northern Lights all at the convenience and comfort of a UK departure. Not only will we take guests to new highlights, but with an increased presence of expedition team leaders onboard, we will help new and existing guest to become immersed in the rich wildlife and cultural offering of Norway.”
