Hurtigruten Expeditions has resumed cruise operations with the maiden voyage of its third battery-hybrid ship, Otto Sverdrup, from Hamburg, Germany.

Otto Sverdrup will operate expedition cruises from Hamburg to the Norwegian coast, marking the first time that Hurtigruten Expeditions has offered year-round cruises from Germany.

“We are thrilled to finally be back exploring with our guests,” said Asta Lassesen, CEO of Hurtigruten Expeditions. “We saw the travel industry’s global pause as a golden opportunity to invest, upgrade and improve our ships and product. As we return to cruising, Otto Sverdrup will feature a combination of advanced green technology, including new battery packs, that will ensure an even more sustainable way of exploring the Norwegian coast.”

Hurtigruten’s Maud will join Otto Sverdrup in operation when she begins sailing the cruise line’s first year-round UK expedition cruises from Dover in September. Hurtigruten also recently announced that it will sail its first cruises to the coast of West Africa in the 2022-2023 season.
